Writing Style.

Only by writing and then more writing can we find our writing style.  P. D. James quotes this in the Mslexia diary.  I haven't a clue what my style is, that's if I've even got one, so once again I've sent an enquiry for an article to People's Friend, and typed up another story.

I know they like nostalgic articles, so it's an idea I have for writing about our holidays when I was young in the sixties.

  3. It took me a while to realise my style is commercial/humorous, with a sprinkling of serious. I kept trying to write what I thought I 'ought' to be writing for ages.

Good luck with the story and article. We didn't really have holidays when we were children, just the odd week at my gran's - who lived in the same town!

  4. I don't think I have a style. I flit between one thing and another. The article sounds perfect for PF.

On the subject of style, I've been enjoying your blog and I have awarded you a Stylish Blogger Award. Details at http://teresaashby.blogspot.com/ I hope you will share seven things about yourself on your blog and pass the baton to 15 more bloggers, but no worries if you’d rather not.

  5. I didn't really discover my style until I started writing longer fiction, and then it rather took me by surprise. It's a bit like my appearance; something I'd have difficulty changing, even if I wanted to (which can be a bad thing in both cases!).

  6. Hi Patsy,
Your style is modern, intelligent, funny. I know when I see your name on a story, it will be good.

  7. Hi Jarmara,
It's important to write in your own voice. We all have something different to say. Look forward to reading one of your stories soon.

  8. Hi Karen,
I too for much too long have been forcing myself to write what I thought I ought to be writing. I worried too much what aunties would think. Now, I just write all the time, and enjoy it as part of my day. I'm sure you had great holidays at your Gran's. Hope to read one of your stories soon.

  9. Hi Teresa,
I have been reading your stories for a long time. I know when I see your name, somewhere along the lines tears will be flowing. (In a good way) You have a great skill. Capturing the emotions. I must make that my mantra. Thank you so much for the award. I'll have a look how it works later.

  10. Hi Frances.
I think you're right. We have to stick to our own unique style. Agatha Christie had a good style of writing, also I love Alexander McCall Smith and the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. Your books look good. Will have a read one day. Thanks for commenting.
