Have cliches got any place at all?

I'm going to get slated by every editor around, but I like cliches...

Where would our advertising people and newspaper journalists be without their bags full of slogans and catchy jingles? I put it down to the fact that I listened to the radio a lot growing up; as well as that I was brought up in cliches. Without realising, we use them all the time in everyday speech, that's why I think they do have a place: even if it's to define a character in speech.

When is a cake not a cake?

When it's a lemon drizzle with a slice from the middle. Scrumptious!

  1. "When is a cake not a cake?" When it's my birthday, I reckon. Not a cake nor a present to be seen. Not even one measly plate of steak and potatoes. I'm so hungry I could eat a horse. Hmm, I guess that's a cliche too. Tipping my hat to you, Sue.
